External Study

While studying in a classroom environment is the preferred option for most students, there are some people who for reasons of distance, work or family obligations find it impossible to attend in-house classes.Over the years we have received many enquiries from people who would love to learn Auslan but have been unable to do so. We now have the answer!!!!! We have produced the talking hands courses in a visual format.

Deaf Can:Do recognises that all their potential students are in different circumstances; therefore we offer a couple of different formats. The talking hands series 1 – 5 have all been recorded on Video, DVD and CD – ROM. These formats all include a student workbook. It is our hope that making all three options available, it will assist people to purchase the most relevant format to their home system.

Video + Student workbook: $82.50
DVD + Student workbook: $82.50
CD – ROM + Student workbook: $82.50

Workshops
Auslan Club Workshops price: $10.00 per session
These are held every fortnight on Friday evenings at various venues to enable students to meet outside the classroom environment.

Workshops allow students to learn in relaxed surroundings, promoting improved conversation skills with Deaf people and other students in attendance. With no voice to be used over the two hours, students are exposed to greater vocabulary, learning idioms and expressions used within the Deaf Community.

Auslan Camp
Auslan only "Getaway" weekend cost: $225 Concession: $215 (Proof required)

Remember, contact Deaf Can:Do for all 2010 programs that are running.

As there is no Deaf country to visit, these retreats provide students with the unique opportunity to experience total immersion into the language for the weekend. The retreat will focus on additional elements of Auslan not included in the courses as well as more exposure to the Deaf world. The weekend runs from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon. It is open to all students, with group work catering to the appropriate level of each student.
