Deaf Can:Do’s Talking Hands courses can be undertaken internally (onsite Classroom at Deaf Can:Do), externally (self-paced learning) or in a workplace setting.
The internal course is presented to participants by a Deaf teacher and is live and interactive. Courses are held at the Deaf Society located at 59-61 Grange Road, Welland. A DVD and booklet are handed out at these courses for further practice at home.
All internal courses offered are at specific times, for 2 hours a week over 5 weeks. To see the timetable for upcoming courses click here. *Please note that certificates can only be attained by attending a minimum of 3 out of 5 sessions. The external course consists of a booklet and DVD option. This is a self-paced learning option where participants can watch the DVD, read the booklet and learn at their leisure and in the comfort of their own home. *Please note that certificates are not applicable in this format of learning Auslan.
Deaf Can:Do also offers a work place training option for those companies wishing to offer their staff a different Professional Development opportunity. In this option the Deaf teacher will come to the workplace and teach the lessons on site. Due to possible limitations on participants time, Deaf Can:Do Talking Hands courses can be offered in a flexible arrangement. Classes can be 2 hours a week over 5 weeks, or 1 hour a week over 10 weeks. Times and dates would need to be negotiated, please contact our office for this to occur.
Workshop session are also available to participants looking for that little bit of an extra challenge. Not only do participants of various experiences attend, so do other Deaf community members. These workshop sessions are held every fortnight at different venues within the CBD. With a ‘no voice’ theme (no talking what-so-ever!), participants are challenged to converse with others and are, in-turn, exposed to more language, expressions and idioms of the Deaf community.
