New Auslan Curriculum

Did you know Deaf Can:Do has been working on a new curriculum for their Auslan short courses Talking Hands?

The new curriculum has been designed around a holistic approach to the language, grammar first-vocabulary later that helps students use full sequences faster. There are three course levels students can undertake:

  • Talking Hands 1 (beginner)
  • Talking Hands 2 (intermediate)
  • Talking Hands 3 (advanced)

We recommend doing all three and undertaking each course straight after the other - because we all know if you don’t use it you lose it!

Courses run on a variety of weeknights at our Deaf Can:Do office in Welland from 6-8pm. View timetable

At the end of Talking Hands 3 you will be able to hold a conversation with a Deaf person on topics like home and family, work or school, shopping, holidays and more. We will even adjust this if you have anything specific you would like to talk about.

Deaf Can:Do Talking Hands courses will not only teach you some amazing Auslan skills but you will also get an insight into Deaf Culture. All our courses are taught by a Deaf Auslan Tutor too, so prepare to be immersed into this fascinating language.

Here is what some of our recent Talking Hands 3 graduates had to say:

The best part was the Deaf teacher and interaction – Melissa

Best part was fun and atmosphere - Daniel

I really enjoyed the course and learning not only Auslan but also about Deaf Culture – Melinda
