The National Week of Deaf People is held annually in the third week of October to celebrate Deaf individuals and the Australian Deaf community.
The NWDP started with Deaf Can:Do opening its doors for Come and Try Auslan sessions. These were a huge success with many attendees given the opportunity to learn the fascinating language that is Auslan.
Deaf Can:Do celebrated the week as well as its 125th year anniversary with a delicious in-house cake competition. It was a hard choice with many delicious cakes on offer but winning honours went to the Deaf Can:Do Community Services team who claimed victory with their delightful Auslan inspired chocolate cake!
The NWDP closed off on 22nd October with an Auslan Wine Tour in the world famous Barossa wine region. Attendees not only enjoyed wine tastings at Saltram and Seppeltsfield winery but were also treated to an exclusive behind the scenes tour of Barossa Valley Brewery by head brewer Denham D'Silva.
Deaf Can:Do thanks the people and organisations that supported the NWDP and look forward to more activities at next year’s week of celebrations.
